Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun?
We are blended family, with four kids ranging from an eighth grader to a freshman in college (living in AZ!). We have been blessed with many opportunities to travel and love seeing new places and experience different environments and cultures. We also love concerts and sporting events—especially the Hawkeyes and The Fighting Irish.
Professionally, I have been in the telecommunications industry for over 20 years and love seeing all the new and exciting opportunities technology brings to our society.
What causes are you most passionate about?
I am most passionate about everyone becoming the best person they can be. I believe we can achieve this by being mentally and physically healthy. As women, we often take care of so many other people and sometimes need reminders to take care of ourselves, too.
Why did you decide to get involved with United Way and Women United?
I have a soft spot for single moms, because when I was a young child, my mother was single for a period of time. During that time, we received help from the community. Then as we grew up, we were blessed with opportunities to give back, whether it be volunteering or helping families during the holidays. Our family still takes part in both as I have passed these traditions on to my children.
Do you have any advice for others who want to be more active in the community?
There are many ways to get more involved in the community, but it starts by finding your passion and the nonprofit that fits you. Whether it’s reading to school kids during lunch, ringing the bell [during the holidays], or making blankets for cancer patients—it’s so rewarding to see the smiling recipients!
