Meet Katherine and Jennifer - our new volunteer engagement specialists!
Over the last couple months, Katherine Hines and Jennifer Comstock joined our team as our new Community Resource and Volunteer Engagement Specialists! Learn more about Katherine from Benton County and Jennifer from Cedar County through their responses below.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun?
I was born and raised in Cedar Rapids. I have lived in Benton County for 9 years with my husband and our four kids. I love traveling and seeing new things but I also love just sitting in my hammock with a good book.
What do you love most about working at United Way?
The people. Both the staff and volunteers. When you are working to help strengthen the community you meet amazing individuals.
Outside of United Way, how are you involved in the community?
I am a member of our PTO and our family likes to pick a couple giving projects a year.
What is some of the best advice you have received?
To be yourself you must believe in yourself.

Tell us a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun?
I am the mother of 3 young adults, so I am recovering from the shock of a empty nest.
What’s something unique that people don’t know about you?
I enjoy performing in any musical. I play several instruments and enjoying singing in community choirs.
What do you love most about working at United Way?
I love that the United Way of East Central Iowa allows me to serve the community where I live.
Outside of United Way, how are you involved in the community?
Prior to the pandemic, I enjoyed participating in the local theater and music groups.
