Learn about our marketing intern, Tory Brown.

Tell us about where you’re from, where you grew up, etc.
I am from right here in Cedar Rapids. I grew up the youngest of three children. I went to Xavier High School and now go to Iowa State University.

Tory and her dog, JoeyWhat do you do for fun?
I love to play with my dog Joey, sing, play sports with my friends, and go to the movies with my parents. Also, watching Netflix is a great pastime of mine.

What are you studying? Do you have dream job in mind?
I am studying event management. There are so many different routes I can take with this major. However, the most far-fetched, dream job would be a wedding planner for Walt Disney World.

Why did you want to be an intern for United Way?
I wanted to be an intern with United Way because I see the impact it makes in the community. I want to be a part of that like my mom has in the past.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
I think I would be a darker shade of teal because although I can be in the spotlight and act as a bold accent color, I also enjoy having downtime to just relax.

What are you currently watching on Netflix?
Currently, I am watching the Great British Baking Show. I just finished The Returned, as well as 13 Reasons Why. I like to switch up the types of shows I watch to keep it interesting and exciting.

Who inspires you and why?
Truly, my parents inspire me more than anyone, and I am so lucky to have them in my life. They have always taught me to chase my dreams and have confidence in myself and my ideas while also staying humble. They both have been extraordinary leaders in different ways and helped shape who I am today.

Where’s your favorite place in the world?
This very much depends on the weather at home and the mood I am in! I love Colorado and the beautiful scenery and activities, such as hiking and skiing, that come with it. But I also love Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Orlando, FL. It always is so uplifting and just a blast to go and explore the worlds of our imagination within those two locations.
