2018 Volunteer Award Nominations

Written by United Way Team | Dec 13, 2017 2:00:17 PM

As part of National Volunteer Month every April, we host our annual volunteer celebration event to showcase local individuals, companies, and groups who make a difference through their volunteerism in East Central Iowa. Volunteers work to build a better community and bring a wealth of skills and resources to local nonprofits.

If you know a volunteer who goes above and beyond for a cause they believe in, then this event is the perfect opportunity to thank them for all they do.

Through Young Parents Network, Latino Employee Network helped distribute backpacks to hundreds of children, provided STEM education to children, read to children through Lunch & Literacy, and helped pilot the Juntos program. Their service will continue to impact Latino families in Cedar Rapids for many years to come.

To submit your volunteer nomination, simply follow the guidelines listed on our website and fill out a short form. Tell us how your volunteer in one of six categories (youth, young professional, adult, senior, business, or group) has improved your program/organization, helped people in need, or impacted fellow volunteers. If you submitted a nomination last year and the volunteer did not become a finalist, you can still nominate them again this year.

After nominations close, members of our William B. Quarton Society and Young Leaders Society Committee, a group of volunteers themselves, will select three finalists in each of the six categories. Then, we will put these 18 volunteer finalists on our website for you to vote. The volunteer with the most votes in each category will receive $500 to donate to a nonprofit of their choice.

We are accepting nominations now through February 22, 2018, so be sure to nominate a volunteer today! Plus, save the date to come see the winners at our volunteer celebration event on Friday, April 27. This event will include the Time for Art silent art auction where attendees bid volunteer hours instead of dollars. If you or someone you know is a local artist, consider donating original works of art for the event.
