Welcome to UWECI: Meet Our Year-Long Intern

September 30, 2020 | United Way Team

Learn about our year-long Community Building intern, Elisa!

Each year, our Community Building team supports universities and colleges in Eastern Iowa by hosting interns. This year, United Way of East Central Iowa (UWECI) is excited to have Elisa Senno as a member of our team for both the fall and spring semesters! Take some time to learn more about Elisa, a senior at St. Ambrose University!

Tell us about where you’re from, where you grew up, etc.

I am from Alton, IL which is right outside of Saint Louis. I have two younger brothers, two dogs, and two cats. I am also very close with my mom. I love soccer and played it for almost 15 years!Elisa photo - blog

What are you studying at St. Ambrose?

I am studying social work and psychology! I will be attending grad school next year to pursue a master’s degree in social work.

Why did you want to work for United Way, or, what are you most excited to learn about United Way during your time here?

I am excited to work for United Way because I have a new-found appreciation for macro social work and how it can impact communities. I am excited to learn more and continue to grow as an aspiring social worker!

What is something on your bucket list that you haven’t had a chance to complete yet?

I always say I would love to volunteer at sea for an organization known as the Sea Shepard Conservation Society. They are a non-profit marine wildlife conservation organization. Their mission is to “end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.”

Build the perfect sandwich… go!

I am not a huge sandwich person because I am a vegetarian, but you can never go wrong with a PB&J or a grilled cheese!

Be on the lookout for more information about Elisa and her work with UWECI in the coming months!
