Learn more about the 2019 YLS Chair, Beth Lehman of Collins Aerospace.
Beth Lehman may be stepping into a new role within Young Leaders Society (YLS), but she has been an active member for a few years. We got to know Beth a little bit in 2017 but were eager to get to know her better before former chair, Whitney Pino, passed the torch.
Originally from Dyersville, Beth attended both Kirkwood and Upper Iowa and played college volleyball. Her first job out of college was as a bank teller, but she quickly found a passion for recruiting and started at The Gazette.
“I served as the United Way campaign chair while I was at The Gazette, then [a friend] introduced me to YLS and the rest is really history,” said Beth.
She’s been at Collins Aerospace for the last four years and keeps her schedule busy. Learn more about our incoming YLS chair below!
How did you end up in Cedar Rapids?
I have family in Cedar Rapids—my brothers live here—so I ended up coming here after my time at Upper Iowa.
What are you most looking forward to as the new YLS Chair?
We had a really pivotal year last year! With the launch of BOLD and the success of Volunteers on Tap, and we still have Time for Art coming up, I’m just really excited to keep the ball rolling!
Who inspires you and why?
My family. I come from a family of very hard workers—both my brothers and my parents work harder than anybody I know, and they don’t give up on anything.
What do you like to do in your free time?
My husband is a teacher and coaches a variety of things so between that and our two little ones, we keep ourselves pretty busy! I still play volleyball year-round in addition to volunteer coaching, but when it’s nice out, I love going on family bike rides.
Where is your favorite place in the world?
One of my favorite places in the world is my parents’ house. My favorite day of the year is Christmas Eve there with my family!
