Applications are open for the third series of Board Orientation & Leadership Development (BOLD)! Led by United Way of East Central Iowa’s (UWECI) Young Leaders Society, BOLD is geared toward emerging leaders interested in volunteering for a board or committee, but are unsure of the skills needed or responsibilities included in
“I served on a board when I lived in Minnesota; from that experience I knew it was work I enjoyed and wanted to continue when I moved to Iowa,” said 2020 BOLD graduate Rachel Rigdon. “BOLD provides an opportunity to learn the skills and resources a board can use to propel their organization forward, along with access to nonprofits in the Corridor, which is what encouraged me to participate.”
BOLD features six 90-minute workshops including presentations from community leaders, group conversations, training opportunities, and more. This year, these workshops will run from February to June. Participants will be encouraged to join in dialogue surrounding:
One of the core goals behind the BOLD program is to increase the breadth and diversity of volunteer leadership within our communities. In keeping with this principal, UWECI and the Cedar Rapids NAACP have partnered to provide scholarships for up to four BOLD applicants that are part of diverse communities, such as BIPOC, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, and other groups who are made to feel like they do not belong.
