Learn how you can give back in East Central Iowa this holiday season.
‘Twas the night before the holidays and all through the town, community members were wondering how they could help out.
United Way stepped in, to help clear their worry. “The Holiday Volunteer Guide is here,” they said in a hurry.
The volunteers jumped, excited to help out. “But where do we go? What do we do?” they said with a bit of doubt.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got you,” said United Way. “The guide has everything you need to make a difference over the holidays.”
It’s true! United Way of East Central Iowa’s (UWECI) Holiday Volunteer Guide has a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout Linn, Jones, Iowa, Cedar, and Benton counties. We receive many calls during this time of year from community members hoping to get involved and give back, which is why we started this annual guide.
The guide includes opportunities from local nonprofits with greater needs during the holiday season. From food drives and toy collection to adopt-a-family and holiday parties, there are many ways to make a difference for those who need it most this holiday season.
“In the first week we sent out RSVPs [for our holiday party], 90 people signed up,” said Anne Armknecht, Executive Director of The Arc of East Central Iowa. “And that’s not 90 individuals—that’s 90 families!”
Although this time of year can be a reflection on the blessings we have in our lives, it’s also a good chance for us to spread our joy to those who may not be as fortunate.
